Army denies report of Boko Haram attack on Nyako’s convoy, kills 13 terrorist

The Nigerian Army Friday refuted reports that Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State was attacked by  terrorists  and that more terrorists have been arrested while 13 of them died following a raid on their make-shift camp sited between Borno and Adamawa states.

The army in a statement signed by Major General Chris Olukolade,
Director Defence Information, said that some of those who escaped from earlier raid have also been picked up in Maiduguri and environs.

Gov. Nyako
Meanwhile, calm has returned to Shuwa after the pandemonium generated by the panic in the community this morning when people sighted the convoy of troops going after terrorists and mistook it for another round of attack.

The statement said the alleged attack on the convoy of Governor Nyako as presented in a breaking news report were not true.    The truth is that the Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako visited Michika and Shuwa areas of the State to sympathise with the communities that were attacked by terrorists recently. While returning, the convoy came across a noticeable pandemonium which resulted from the alarm raised by some people who had mistaken a convoy movement of troops on patrol at Kirchinga village, for another impending attack by terrorists.

In the ensuing stampede and confusion, people scampered into the bush ostensibly to escape from those mistaken for terrorists.

The incident which was presented as a “Breaking News” and scrolled on TV is therefore not a true reflection of what actually happened.  The report is capable of causing unnecessary anxiety and heightening tension.

The military authorities therefore find it necessary to put the records straight and call on residents to go about their normal activities while remaining vigilant.  The operations in the North East are being consolidated and every effort is made to stop the terrorists from continuing their atrocities in that part of the country.

Abductors of Jonathan’s cousin demand N500m ransom

The kidnappers of Chief Inengite Nitabai, cousin to President Goodluck Jonathan, have demanded the sum of N500m ransom to set him free.

Nitabai, aged 70, was abducted last Sunday by ten armed men at his Otuoke residence in Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State and taken away in his private Sports Utitlity Vehicle after collecting N400,000 from his wife.

The vehicle was later recovered at Unuegbum  waterfront where it was abandoned, an indication that the gunmen escaped through the creek.
The victim, his wife, his wife’s sister and three of his children were in the house when the gunmen struck.

But that respite it was learnt came the way of the family when the kidnappers contacted them to make the ransom demand Thursday.

It was learnt that the outrageous demand unsettled the family members who had since resorted to prayers for divine intervention.

Though his children had declined media enquiries on the matter so as not to jeopardize police efforts,  and the abductors have threatened to kill their victim if the family failed to accede to their demand.

The kidnappers contacted the family four days after and demanded a whooping sum of N500m. It is believed that the family of the victim has begun negotiations with the hoodlums.

The bus was carrying as many as 60 children, Siriwat said.

The group of children comprised students of primary and high schools from the neighboring province of Nakhon Ratchasima province, authorities said

Angry Husband Posts Provocative Pictures Of Wife All Over Town After They Split

A 46 year old man Ian Cuthbert, was said to be in an "extreme state" when he put up the fliers believing his wife Alison had been in a relationship with another man

Angry Cuthbert had posted some provocative poster of his wife on lamposts and outside a school.

The 46 year old admitted posting raunchy pictures of his wife in her underwear all over their local town after the relationship ended. He went further posting fliers on a school noticeboard, trees and lamppost which included a picture of 34-year-old Alison Kidd and the caption "Lock Up Your Husbands".

"Married and committing adultery within days" it added.

Cuthbert posted them in an "extreme state" last September – just six months after the couple wed – after hearing allegations that his wife had been in a relationship with another man, a court heard.

The couple only wed in March last year
Staff arriving at the school on the outskirts of Edinburgh collected them before the children became aware of them.

Nursery assistant Alison was told about the posters by friends and contacted police.

Yesterday, a sheriff told twisted Cuthbert, of Broxburn, West Lothian, that what he had done was “really a form of assault”.

Cuthbert pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to distributing offensive pictures of his wife.

Couple jailed for killing their baby with strict diet because of their religious beliefs

Five-month-old Ndingeko Kunene died of the disease, because his parents believed God would guide the family when it came to any matter that affected life

Extreme beliefs: Nkosiyapha and Virginia Kunene
The parents of a five-month old baby have been jailed after he died from RICKETS because of his poor diet.

Nkosiyapha Kunene, 36, and Virginia Kunene, 32, were sentenced to three years, and two years and three months respectively at the Old Bailey today for manslaughter.

Mr Justice Singh said: "The secular courts of this country apply the secular law of the land. They do so equally to all who come before them. The law respects the right of everyone to freedom of thought and belief.

"However the right to manifest one's religion is not absolute. It is limited in particular by the rights of others. The state has a particularly important duty to protect the right to life, especially when a young child is concerned."The couple, of Carlton Road, Erith, Kent, admitted the charge at earlier hearings.

The judge said Ndingeko was born on January 1 2012 and died in June 14 that year.

He was found to have been suffering from rickets resulting from severe Vitamin D deficiency.

The court heard the child was born at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford.

From birth, he had medical problems, and the judge said it was emphasised on behalf of the couple that the vitamin D deficiency was not diagnosed at that stage, nor was Virginia Kunene given advice about taking supplements.

The mother did not attend a scheduled check up on March 8 and Ndingeko was not seen by a health care professional from then on to the day he died.

Four youths arraigned for stealing cows

Four cattle rustlers, Danjuma Yale 28, Samuel Manpin 24, Silvanus Danwesh 25, and Pansum Dungse, 27, were on Friday arraigned in an upper Area Court, Jos, over alleged conspiracy and theft of 10 cows.

The cows belong to one, Malam Yakubu Musa of Gindiri village in Mangu Local Government Area.

The four accused persons who reside at Mangu Local Government headquarters in Plateau, appeared before Malam Mustapha Hassan on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Edwin Ochei, had told the court that the accused persons conspired and stole the 10 cows.

Ochei said that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 7, at about 2 p.m. while the owner of the cows was away.

“The accused conspired and snatched the 10 cows from the small boy to whom the owner entrusted the cows before he left for his trip.

“When the owner of the cows came back from his trip on Feb. 8 he found that the cows had been stolen, and he reported the matter to the police in Mangu town.

“The cows were later traced to the house of one, Dahiru Bello who has bought some of them at the cost of N225, 000.

“Some of the cows were also traced to the town’s abattoir in the hands of butchers that have already slaughtered them,“ the prosecutor said.

Ochei said that during police investigation it was discovered that the accused persons were those who stole the cows and sold them out.
