Police arrests Sales man for stealing N2.3 million

The police on Tuesday arrested a salesman, Azeez Williams, before an Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N2.3m.

Williams, 33, who resides at Ikorodu area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Cousin Adams, said that the accused committed the offences between December 2, 2012 and July 22, 2013 at No. 33 Kosoko Street, Oke-Arin, Idumota, Lagos.

“The accused failed to record daily sales in the account books; there was no record of goods sold.

“The complainant reported the case to the police and it was discovered that the accused had bought a plot of land with the money he stole from his boss,” Adams said.

He said the offences contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011 but the accused pleaded not guilty of the charges. The Magistrate, Mr. K.O. Ogundare, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case to January 28, 2014 for further hearing.
