Olaiya Street, Mafoluku in Oshodi Isolo area of Lagos was thrown into mayhem on Sunday morning by some group of men suspected to be Area boys.
It was learnt that Those Area boys destroyed about 50 vehicles and many buildings. Also involved among the buildings that were destroyed was a Redeemed Christian Church of God, Tree of Life parish.
The people living in the area revealed that those armed men were more than 100 in number and had numerous dangerous weapons with them when they attack as early as 2am in that morning. They also said that those armed men always come around to cause such damage, and it was the fourth time they had cause such havoc and gone when they were done without the Police interfering.
Information gathered revealed that those Area boys were having fracas with another notorious group known as Alagbole Boys that sunday as a retaliation of a previous fight they had some time ago.
It was gathered that as the violence was going on that 2am, people living in that area stayed back in their houses due to fear of being attacked as well. Many cars amounting to 50 were damaged as the owners watched helplessly while the armed men kept destroying several vehicles and more.
One Dare Majadeogbe, a Pastor who is a resident of that area was watching them destroying his car and could not do anything. The boys kept moving from car to car, breaking the cars’ glasses and winthrdscreens. "I watched helplessly as my private and church cars were destroyed" Pastor Dare said. He also revealed that those gangs had destroyed some cars and houses at the near by street the previous year just like they did that sunday.
Husam Elemo, the traditional ruler of Mafoluku said,“This has been happening for a long time, and I have always showed my dislike for things like this. Most times, the Special Anti Robbery Squad and Makinde Police Division would come in, and nothing would come out. The Alagbole boys and Garage Boys have been disturbing us. We do not want them to bury this recent devastation, like other cases. I want the government to wade into it this time so we can have lasting peace.” He was telling a Journalist.
