Meet the woman who lives with 200 snakes

A 64 year old woman who is a pensioner was found living with almost 200 snakes in her semi-detached house has been banned from keeping reptiles for a year.

64 year old Pauline Wallace, turned the house where she lived with her elderly mother into a "snake hostel" after becoming obsessed with the creatures. She kept 114 of them in her bedroom alone.

It was learn that she couldn't look after them properly and after the RSPCA inspected the house, they brought a prosecution against her which has so far cost the charity more than £150,000.

Currently at York Magistrates' Court, Pauline Wallace was given a 12-month community order with supervision as well as the ban on keeping reptiles.

She had pleaded guilty to nine counts of animal cruelty at a hearing last year.

The court heard that RSPCA inspectors found 20 snakes frozen in a fridge freezer alongside a dead cat because she couldn't bear to bury them.

The live snakes were kept in old sweet tubs, plastic bins and vivariums that were stacked from floor to ceiling.
