Real madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo wins FIFA Balon d'Or award



Portugal captain and Real Madrid striker, Christiano Ronaldo, on Monday won the FIFA World Footballer of the Year award, the Balon d’Or.

The Portuguese beat the other contenders -Argentina’s and Barcelona Lionel Messi and Frenchman and Bayern Munich winger, Frank Ribery- to pick the award for 2013.

At the ceremony, held in Zurich, Switzerland, former Brazilian striker Pele, picked and announced the winner, witnessed by FIFA President Sepp Blatter, and UEFA President, Mitchel Platini.

Ronaldo, who broke into tears while receiving the award, thanked his supporters and teammates for supporting him to win the award.

Congrats to Ronaldo! He really deserves this award. He is a super classic player, very hardworking and highly disciplined. I'm very happy for him.

And it is now Messi 4 - 2 Ronaldo. The battle still goes on, and the question is "Who is next?"
